WSC Completes Upgrade for LADWP

WSC completed the upgrade to the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) Valley Generating Station Simulator. Valley is a 525 MWe, 2x1 combined cycle plant with two GE Frame 7FA Gas Turbines, two Alstom Triple Pressure HRSGs, and one GE D11 Steam Turbine. The LADWP fleet of combined cycle power plants has used simulators delivered by WSC since 2006, with Valley being the first of five simulators delivered to LADWP.
The Valley simulator upgrade encompassed software and hardware: Gas Turbine and Auxiliary Models were migrated to 3KEYMASTER FlowBase, a Hydraulic Modeling Network Tool that provides high-fidelity simulation of fluid systems; the HRSG, ST, and BOP Models and Electrical Distribution System were updated to the latest versions of 3KEYMASTER Modeling Tools; the Emulated DCS systems logic and HMI were updated to match the current plant configuration; the hardware set on which the simulator has run since 2006 was replaced to more closely match the control room configuration. WSC also provided a full set of plant start-up lessons using the Intelligent Tutoring System (3KEYITS) to enhance the simulator training capabilities.
